Slopfest:    

Bio: Mark your calendars for July 24th - 26th for the 6th Annual Slopfest at Little Kings in Athens, Ga. The idea for the first Slopfest came from a conversation at Little Kings lamenting the demise of Athens PopFest. Founder Derek Wiggs began throwing ideas around for a DIY tribute to the best annual event in recent Athens live music history as a way to keep the curious festival’s spirit alive. That first year, July 2009, boasted headliners Pride Parade, American Cheeseburger, and The Future Virgins. The show’s overwhelming success encouraged Wiggs to continue the next year, and Slopfest has been an annual party ever since. As the years have passed the shows have only gotten bigger, with a third day added two years ago as a free kick-off party for the weekend. These pre-fest parties have included freakshows, dance parties, and more. This year’s Thursday night kick-off features a magic performance from Jeff Morris and Jason Granfield. Of course, no Slopfest party is complete without killer music. This year the Slopfest locally includes math-rock giants Cinemechanica, hard rock power hitters Vincas & the Powder Room, post-punks Muuy Biien, fuzz-rock duo Eureka California, upstarts Motherfucker, Monsoon, Deep State, and Double Ferrari, and countless others. The festival has even extended its reach bringing in Atlanta bands Forces, Seagulls, Tha Hugs, and The Trespasser, Nashville's Faux Ferocious, St. Augustine's Early Disclaimers, former Athenians Bambara, and Good Grief from Liverpool. The event is all ages and a steal at $5.00 per night with weekend wristbands available at Little Kings.
